Website claims Ethiopia is second Poorest Country in The World, Top 10 poorest nations are all from Africa

After IMF, WorldBank, The Economist and other sources are convinced that Ethiopia's economy is growing in double digit in every kind of measurement, this website introduces, gues what.....a new kind of measurement and placed Ethiopia as the second poorest country in the world.
Ethiopia is second Poorest Countries in The World, Top 10 poorest nations are all from Africa
TheAfricanEconomist.com
You probably heard that Ethiopia has been a fast growing economy in the content recording very high growth rate not just in Africa but the world as well. Yet the new measurement known as the Multidimensional Poverty Index, or MPI, that will replace the Human Poverty index in the United Nations’ annual Human Development Report says that Ethiopia has the second highest percentage of people who are MPI poor in the world, with only the west African nation of Niger fairing worse. This comes as more international analysts have also began to question the accuracy of the Meles government’s double digit economic growth claims and similar disputed government statistics referred by institutions like the IMF.
  1. Niger
  2. Ethiopia
  3. Mali
  4. Burkina Faso
  5. Burundi
  6. Somalia
  7. Central African Republic
  8. Liberia
  9. Guinea
  10. Sierra Leone
What is the MPI?
People living in poverty are affected by more than just income. The Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) complements a traditional focus on income to reflect the deprivations that a poor person faces all at once with respect to
education
, health and living standard. It assesses poverty at the individual level, with poor persons being those who are multiply deprived, and the extent of their poverty being measured by the range of their deprivations.

The MPI can be used to create a vivid picture of people living in poverty, both across countries, regions and the world and within countries by ethnic group, urban/rural location, or other key household characteristics. It is the first international measure of its kind, and offers an essential complement to income poverty measures because it measures deprivations directly. The MPI can be used as an analytical tool to identify the most vulnerable people, show aspects in which they are deprived and help to reveal the interconnections among deprivations.
Why is the MPI useful?
According to the UNDP report, the MPI is a high resolution lens on poverty – it shows the nature of poverty better than income alone. Knowing not just who is poor but how they are poor is essential for effective human development
programs
and policies. This straightforward yet rigorous index allows governments and other policymakers to understand the various sources of poverty for a region, population group, or nation and target their human development plans accordingly. The index can also be used to show shifts in the composition of poverty over time so that progress, or the lack of it, can be monitored.

The MPI goes beyond previous international measures of poverty to:
Show all the deprivations that impact someone’s life at the same time – so it can inform a holistic response.
Identify the poorest people. Such information is vital to target people living in poverty so they benefit from key interventions.
Show which deprivations are most common in different regions and among different groups, so that resources can be allocated and policies designed to address their particular needs.
Reflect the results of effective policy interventions quickly. Because the MPI measures outcomes directly, it will immediately reflect changes such as school enrolment, whereas it can take time for this to affect income.

Lack of Statehood Exposes Oromo to Humiliation in Their Own Homeland

Successive Ethiopian regimes worked against the Oromo. A comparatively larger population, wide
geographic area and immense economic resources of Oromia have been viewed by these regimes in
Ethiopia as the threat to their naked ambition for domination for which reason they targeted Oromo as an
object of fear and hate. Leaving the past regimes’ horrific acts against the Oromo for history we will cite
few samples from the current regime.
For the last 22 years of its reign, the current Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) regime has been
pitting other nations and nationalities, previously co-exiting with the Oromo people in harmony, against
the latter in every direction, under the guise of peoples-based federation. This has been one of the
regime’s standing policies against the Oromo.
Having Oromos killed, raped, their properties destroyed, physically displaced and their fertile land
appended to the neighbouring peoples’ thereby changing the demography of the area, has been going on
since the current regime came to power. In the west of Oromia the regime have mobilized and armed
elements ofthe Gumuz people against the Oromo, after previously disarming the latter, which resulted in
the death and displacement of hundreds of innocent persons and loss of millions of dollars worth of
property. In the south and east the same plot has been going on pitting different Somali tribes against the
Oromo. The Borana and Gujii Oromo in the south have faced the same ordeal while their appeal and
inquiries from other Oromo nationals were deflected under the cover-up explanation of ‘traditional
clashes between tribes on grazing land and water wells’. The number of lives lost through this criminal
policy of the TPLF regime in different parts of Oromia is in the thousands.
All this instigation of conflict with every possible neighbouring people is done to prevent the Oromo from
transforming its human and material resourcesinto a force to counter the regime’s overall domination. It
is only a continuation of the war TPLF declared on the Oromo people as primary enemy and persistently
carried on, using its own armed forces and agents, to this day.
The current phenomenon going on in eastern Oromia is the same process continued on a higher level of
coordination between the heavily armed regular ‘special police force’ and the state trained and armed
bordering Somali tribal militia unleashed against the Anniyyaa and other Oromo, with very high atrocities
so far. Oromos are killed, dispossessed and evicted. Hundreds, including women and children, have been
massacred to date, unknown amount of property looted, several villages burned and vast swathes of land
taken using misguided Somali tribal elements whose mind set is stuck in the old ‘greater Somalia’ dream.
This ordeal has been going on for more than half a year uninterrupted.
As a nation under occupation of and ruled by an alien regime that is bent on keeping Oromo disarmed
defenceless and constantly at risk, the only alternative to local residents is either to put up resistance
bare-handedly and die or abandon their ancestral homesteads in the face of the government directed well
trained and armed aggression.
There is no question that all the nations, nationalities and peoples in Ethiopia are suffering under the
dictatorship of the TPLF. However, the intensity of oppression the Oromo nation is experiencing is
exceptional in that the regime is bent on neutralizing Oromia’s vast human and material resources and its strategic centrally located landmass, sharing boundary with almost all the nations and nationalities in
Ethiopia. An exceptional subjugation of the Oromo demands an exceptional solution to terminate.
Some may naively question why the so-called Oromo People’s Democratic Organization (OPDO), which
was created and is run by the TPLF, does not defend the Oromo against such blatant aggression carried
out in the name of neighbouring people. The fact remain that conscientious elements in the OPDO are
themselves victims of the relentless harassment and humiliation their people are subjected to and cannot
even protect themselves let alone defending the people. The rest are simply enlisted to implement the
whims of their TPLF masters and nothing more than a conduit between the TPLF and the Oromo people.
While the entity is fundamentally organized to perpetuate TPLF occupation speaking in Oromo language,
we leave it to the conscience of every Oromo serving this system how they can possibly justify standing
idly by and watching this ordeal the Oromo people.
As has always been the case, there is only one solution for the Oromo, get organized and resist!
Succumbing to aggression that comes to your doorsteps will only encourage further aggression. It is the
success of the original aggression and occupation that paved the way for the current ones. The
fundamental objective of the Oromo Liberation Front (OLF) and its Oromo Liberation Army (OLA) is to
end occupation and all its consequences. It is the duty of every Oromo to contribute all he/she can to
strengthen this force numerically and materially so that all sorts of aggressions are quickly brought to an
end. The peace loving culture of the Oromo is being challenged by the TPLF regime by every means. In
so doing the regime has committed crimes against humanity for which it shall be held accountable.
We have a message for nations, nationalities and peoples who neighbour with Oromia, those whose
regions are fully located in Oromia and non-Oromo individuals living among the Oromo. Let us all be
mindful that TPLF occupation will come to its ignominious end through our concerted struggles. Taking
the side of the TPLF aggressors in the current conflict and working against your Oromo brothers for
temporary benefits can only perpetuate oppression and actually harm the eternal neighbourly relations
between our peoples which shall remains enduring. Oromo has done no harm to you. Neither will this
condition of unarmed and defenceless Oromo last forever, it will change.
Furthermore, since the TPLF regime is committing crime against humanity and war crimes in Oromia, for
which they shall b held accountable, there is no way that those who participate in the regime’s crimes will
avoid being accountable for their share in the atrocities. TPLF is well known for its ‘use and throw’
policy for persons and groups it makes use of. It can use anyone against any other to advance its particular
interests. Besides, it remains our common oppressor. This regime will inevitably fall, and the future is
more important for all our peoples. Do not harm the historical harmonious relation you have had with the
Oromo people. We should rather cooperate and hasten the downfall of this oppressive regime and work
together for our common progress.

Victory to the Oromo People!

Statement of peaceful demonstration of union of Oromo students in Germany

We, members of Union of Oromo students in Germany (UOSG), protest against
human rights violation practices of criminal regime of Ethiopia known as Tigray
People’s Liberation Front or Ethiopian People Revolutionary Democratic Front
(TPLF/EPRDF). For example the Oromia Support Group in United Kingdom, a nonpolitical organization to raise awareness of human rights violations in Ethiopia, has
reported four thousand two hundred seventy nine (4,279) extra-judicial killings and
987 disappearances of civilians in Ethiopia from 1994 – 2010.
The TPLF/EPRDF regime’s anti peace characteristics are demonstrated by
multidimensional human rights violations: eviction of peasants from ancestral land
without compensation, large-scale displacement of rural communities through
initiation & aggravation of local conflicts, killing freedom of expressions, illegal
interferences in religious affairs, increasing refugees, environmental degradation,
perpetrating & aggravating conflicts in the Horn of Africa, maintaining border conflicts,
negative impacts of border war with Eritrea, war crime in Somalia, and etc.
We believe it is necessary to refrain from sponsoring anti peace and authoritarian
policies of the TPLF/EPRDF regime in order to realize sustainable peace and stability
particularly in Ethiopia and generally in the Horn of African region. Principle of peace
& security for all humanity is the universal value that it should also be applicable for
the human beings in Ethiopia and the horn of Africa.
Therefore we appeal respectfully to families of international communities in general
and the federal democratic government of Germany in particular to stop indirect or
direct involvements in activities suppressing the struggle of the Oromo people in
particular and the oppressed peoples of the Horn of African region.
We would like to remind you that objectives of the struggle of the Oromo people are
to overcome century old injustice, to live in freedom, to build peace, to practice
democracy, and to achieve stability.
Justice and Peace Shall Prevail!

Ethiopia Intelligence, Security Services Powers Extended

The Ethiopian government has announced plans to transform the National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS) into an autonomous federal government office.
This is expected to strengthen its ability to act on national security issues and ensure it can respond to issues today and in the future.
The National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS) was established in 1994/95 as the Security, Immigration and Nationality Affairs Authority. Its name was changed to the NISS in 2006/07.
On Tuesday, the plan to re-establish the NISS was presented to the House of People’s Representatives.
Three reasons were given: To strengthen the NISS to allow it to protect and defend the sovereignty of the country, the constitution and constitutional order; to determine the power, duties and accountability of the NISS to promote peace, development, democracy and good governance; and build a modern and strong NISS, loyal and resilient to the constitution and constitutional order of Ethiopia and conscious of national and international interests
The aim of the NISS is to protect national security by providing quality intelligence and reliable security services. Under the plans presented, it is accountable to the Prime Minister.
The proclamation preventing the establishment of other intelligence and security institutions has given other powers to the NISS.
The agency has a wide permit to lead intelligence and security work both inside and outside Ethiopia, formulate national security and intelligence policies and establish and run intelligence and security training institutions.
Under the new plans, the NISS will also work with foreign intelligence and security organisations to share intelligence and conduct joint operations.
It will also investigate domestic or foreign threats to the constitution and constitutional order, threats to economic growth or governance within Ethiopia and collect intelligence.
It will also lead on national counter-terrorism co-operation and co-ordination and represent the country in international and continental counter-terrorism relations and co-operation.
The service will follow up and investigate terrorism and extremism and collect information.
Its security role includes providing and controlling immigration and nationality services to Ethiopian and foreigners, studying and submitting to the government service charge rates and implement same upon approval; providing the necessary service for refugees based on the Refugee Proclamation and in co-operation with other appropriate organs; leading aviation security activities, providing aviation security services and coordinating other aviation security stake holders in accordance with the Ethiopian Aviation Security Proclamation; providing security protection to the president and prime minister of the country as well as to heads of states and governments of foreign countries in collaboration with other relevant organs.
Girma Seifu, the only opposition MP, said that NISS employees should be separate from the civil service, in the interests of professionalism.
He said they should also have different ID cards to distinguish them from support staff. “Other support staff might use the ID to harass people as they might not have the ethics,” he said.
He cautioned that the new NISS should provide security to society and should not intimidate people
